How to convert your Turbo car into an "NA" in four hours to make it to a race:
First, build an ultra-shorty muffler system for it, using stock cast header welded together, because it was so rusted the bolts were all screwed up.

Then, re-route oil, water, and air intakes... using, what else, DUCT TAPE, and then some brass fittings for the oil and water lines.

To combat turbo gasket failures, I had a firewall machined into the turbo housing and flange so that it would take the brunt of the heat from the exhaust gasses.

I thought this would work... and it did for about 14 laps. Then, the gasket blew out again!

The new, 2 inch diameter wastegate dump port on the manifold.

The original side port was too small and was not able to bleed enough of the exhaust, so the 35 mm tial unit was replaced with a 45 mm turbosmart unit, which stopped the boost spikes at high RPM and high boost.

Here I am, drinking a beer and waiting for the turbo to come out of the oven.

What? In the oven?

Well, I have given up on gaskets, and had some of my Honda buddies TIG weld the turbo to the manifold.

Voila! Gasket problem solved. We had to pre-heat the cast iron to help it survive the TIG welding (hence the oven).

The happy union of the turbo and the manifold.

It lasted 30 laps without cracking. I think I have it beaten. (It only took 3 years...)

The external dump muffler.

The first "APC" part on my car. I needed a small, cheap muffler and the APC unit fit the bill. You can also see the 45 mm turbosmart wastegate—a very nice unit.

I had a bit of time, so I added a door bar. I want to complete the roll cage, but this will do for now.

In light of all the fires, I installed a 3-nozzle racecraft AFFF system.

This uses an aqueous foam-base that puts out fires, and cools and protects the driver from the fire, much better than halon systems.

The rear nozzle that sprays the fuel cell and battery area.

The dash with the newly-added fire pull "T" handle.

This is what activates the AFFF fire system.

The wastegate dump muffler. So far it works very well.
